The Republic of Congo’s government has approved a project by industrial developer Arise to develop a bulk cargo port aimed at bolstering activities within the Pointe Noire Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The decision was made during the inaugural meeting of the Public-Private Partnership Technical Committee, chaired by Minister Denis Christel Sassou Nguesso last week in Brazzaville.
The port will spread across 2,700 hectares and will focus on the local transformation of timber, agriproducts and other processing industries. The port project stems from a 2022 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Republic of Congo and Arise, committing the company to invest €150 million in the development of the Pointe-Noire SEZ. The MoU also outlines plans for establishing an additional SEZ in Ouésso.
In addition to the Arise project, the meeting evaluated two other proposals: a revenue optimization software system and a national printing office modernization plan. The projects, now set to move forward, are expected to lead to detailed contracts between the government and the private companies involved.
