Global energy major Eni has launched the hull of the Nguya FLNG vessel – a key component of Phase 2 of the Republic of Congo’s inaugural LNG project: Congo LNG. Currently being constructed at the Wison shipyard in China, the vessel will boost Congo LNG’s total liquefaction capacity to 3 million tons per annum (mtpa).
The Nguya vessel has a capacity of 2.4 mtpa and will complement the existing 0.6 mtpa Tango FLNG vessel, which began operations in December 2023. With the launch of the hull, the vessel is on track for first production by the end of 2025.
According to Eni COO Guido Brusco, “with the successful launch of the Nguya FLNG hull, the Congo LNG project has reached an impressive milestone of 40 million hours worked without any Lost Time Injuries. This project underscores the project’s ongoing progress in valorizing Congo’s gas resources while capitalizing on local and international opportunities to deliver further value for our stakeholders.”
Featuring a zero-flaring approach, the vessel is expected to be completed in less than three years since the initial contract was signed.
