)
As a leading Congolese oil and gas trading company, Imperatus Energy continues to strengthen its position in the global energy market. At the Congo Energy & Investment Forum 2025, the company shared its vision for growth and outlined the strategies driving its expansion. Energy Capital & Power spoke with Jean Paul Sabbach, Trade Finance & Business Development for Imperatus Energy DMCC, during the forum to discuss the company's role in shaping the Republic of Congo’s energy landscape and its broader ambitions across Africa.
With Congo aiming to increase production to 500,000 barrels per day, how is Imperatus Energy aligning its activities to support this growth?
We have been established in the Congo for several years, operating primarily as a crude oil trading company. We are engaged in the commercialization and marketing of crude oil, and we are increasingly expanding our focus to include the commercialization of refined and derivative petroleum products. In addition to trading, we specialize in logistics, including transportation and storage.
What is your strategy for expanding your footprint across Africa?
We operate a strategic office in Dubai and maintain active representation in Geneva, Switzerland, with our headquarters based in Pointe-Noire, Congo. From this strong foundation, we are emerging as a significant player in the global energy market, focused on marketing and commercializing African crude oil across an expanding network of international markets. Our roots are embedded in Congo, with the majority of our team – including our CEO – originating from here. We began by meeting local demand and have since expanded our reach to regional and international markets, including partnerships and operations in Senegal and Ivory Coast.
What is your key message at CEIF?
We are committed to elevating Congo’s profile as a leading producer of crude oil and LNG. We aim to leverage our experience and business success in Congo as a foundation to expand our global footprint.
