The Republic of Congo is looking at boosting the production of fertilizer across the country to support agricultural activities. With a pipeline of natural gas projects coming online in 2024/2025, the country aims to leverage domestic resources to support agriculture yields.
Speaking in his state of the nation address to parliament last week, the country’s President Denis Sassou-N'Guesso explained that the country is rich in fertile soil, a young workforce and significant natural gas reserves. “By taking into account all of these assets, it is likely that we can intensify agriculture,” he said.
Beyond fertilizer production, President N’Guesso encouraged the government to prioritize regulatory reforms that incentivize greater private investment across the agriculture sector. President N’Guesso stated that “I encourage promotes who have expressed their interest in agro-industry in our country to start implementing their projects, including public-private partnerships.”
