SAS Congo Targets Pan-African Expansion with Specialized HR Solutions

SAS Congo Targets Pan-African Expansion with Specialized HR Solutions

Human resources solutions provider SAS Congo has established a strong presence in Pointe-Noire, Republic of Congo, catering to the country’s oil, energy, mining and maritime sectors. In an interview with Energy Capital & Power (ECP), Jean-Noël Makaya, SAS Congo CEO, discussed the company’s HR strategies and expansion plans, highlighting the importance of specialized HR management for the development of the Congolese economy.

How does SAS Congo adapt its HR solutions to the specific needs of Congo’s diverse industries?

SAS Congo specializes in staffing & HR solutions (e.g. sourcing and recruitment of talented and qualified profiles, provision and management of staff on behalf of our clients, conducting HR audits and assistance to companies for employment-related law issues) with a strong presence in Pointe-Noire. In terms of adapting our HR solutions, we use contingency models. These models are tailored to meet the company’s needs at any given time, based on its strategic goals. Whether the company is in a challenging situation or undergoing transformation, we adapt our solutions accordingly. It has been proven that companies that are stable and competitive know how to leverage human resources to drive development. Our expertise in the oil, energy, mining and maritime sectors allows us to offer targeted solutions for each of these areas, giving us an edge over our competitors.

How do you assess the impact of your services on the growth and efficiency of partner companies?

The impact is directly linked to our specialized approach. Unlike generalists, we offer precise, targeted HR solutions. Our recruitment process focuses on sourcing highly qualified candidates who fit the specific needs of our clients. When managing staff on behalf of our clients, we also offer attractive salary and benefits packages to ensure that the company can retain its talents. By creating a sense of belonging among employees, we stimulate higher productivity. This, in turn, positively impacts the company’s results. Companies that work with us see tangible improvements in efficiency, as we help them optimize their HR processes and retain top talents.

Do you offer specific engineering services for the oil and gas industry?

While our primary focus is on HR solutions, we do have experience in the oil and gas sector. In addition to HR services, we support technical partners in the oil and gas services industry, particularly those seeking local contracts in Congo and other countries in Africa. Our expertise in the oil sector enables us to assist international companies looking to operate locally, ensuring they have the right talent and HR support, as well as comply with local content requirements, in the country of their operations.

Do you plan to expand into other sectors or markets in the coming years?

SAS Congo has its roots firmly in Congo, where the country has built over 60 years of experience in the oil industry. We have over 15 years in recruiting and managing talented and qualified staffs in this sector. However, we are expanding into other emerging oil countries. We have already launched subsidiaries in Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Namibia and Angola. These expansions were initiated after we participated in the [MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power] event in Dakar, Senegal in November 2021. Our strategy is to share our HR expertise in the oil and gas industry with other countries. We are also considering further expansion into markets such as Mauritania, Gabon and Mozambique.

While we may explore the possibility of offering support to oil and gas technical services partners in the future, our current strategy is to remain focused on HR services. We want to ensure we maintain the highest level of expertise in staffing solutions in the oil and gas sector before diversifying.
